It was September 31st, 2012 when Brain Cancer blindsided me.  I was at work, having a normal day, when an urgent email from my dad came through my inbox.  I called him quickly and listened silently in my cubicle as he described to me the results of my mother's MRI.  His voice was shaking as he described to me that she had a massive malignant tumor covering over 3 cm of her brain.  It was a gut punch, unexpected, out of the blue and terrifying.  Mom had been healthy, happy, active.  The only health concern we ever had was her slightly elevated hereditary cholesterol.   But this killer had come, had invaded our peaceful, happy, healthy, tight-knit family existence.  And suddenly, Mom's very life was in doubt.  All in a 5 minute phone call.

How I wish I could say that I was the only one experiencing this!  But I'm not.   For some, it's a child that hasn't even received a chance at life yet.  For some, its a spouse or parent.  For others, its a youth in their life that is on the cusp of becoming a person for themselves yet is stopped short. My experience is sadly not uncommon.  Across the world, families are wrecked by brain cancer.  It's impossible to predict.  And once cancer begins in the brain, there is little effective treatment to stop it.
